How to update your Safaricom sim card registration online

The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) requires you to update your sim card details and the deadline was on 15th April but they pushed it to October 15 which is 6 months later. Every Telco is required to fully update their customer details which included the identification document and all numbers registered using that document. So far as per the authority, Safaricom has achieved 67% compliance while Airtel and Telkom have achieved 55% and 33% compliance respectively.

Before the 15th of April, Safaricom customers had no choice but to either go to a Safaricom shop outlet or Safaricom agent in order to update the details but due to online outcry Safaricom had to come up with an online portal which was introduced on 15th April and at the time of availability it was not working for most people but as I write this article I can confirm the portal works fine.

Safaricom sim card registration online process

  1. Visit the Safaricom portal here
  2. Enter your phone number and wait for the code sent to your number and input it into the designated area
  3. Chose the sim card number registered using your ID or the numbers you want to fully register
  4. You will be asked to submit a document proof of which you can either take a photo or upload from your gallery.
  5. Click on submit and wait for validation by Safaricom.

The process is quite simple and straightforward. After the registration is complete Safaricom will send you a message “Dear Customer, Your ID image has been successfully received for the numbers below. Complete update is subject to validation.” Now all you have is to wait for the final validation.
