Oppo Reno 10 5G Creator Review: Is it Worthy?

Oppo Reno 10 5G

The Oppo Reno 10 5G was launched a few months ago in September after the Oppo Reno 8 T 5G. Check out our review here. The phone was hyped for its amazing portrait photography among other features but mostly on its camera capabilities and to make sure the device was capable, I took it on a Journey after its launch.

The phone has been my daily driver ever since it was announced and here are my thoughts after a few months of use.

1. DISPLAY

Starting with the display, the phone’s 6.7″ FHD+ curved display has been easy to use, and coupled with 120Hz refresh rate, I have enjoyed scrolling through social apps. Though the 120Hz eats UPC battery very fast, the phone has survived a day of usage on most occasions before plugging in at night. More on battery later in this article. The display is large and bright enough so there is no struggle when using it during the day.

2. Processer

The Oppo Reno 10 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 OctaCore processor and my particular model comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. During my use, the phone runs smoothly though tends to get hot in some instances like when shooting 4K30FPS videos and when playing some particular games. Surprisingly though hot, the phone does not lag at all. Going back to open apps even after remaining in the background for a while has been smooth making it easier to catch up with some applications.

3. CAMERA

This is one of my favorite part of this whole smartphone mainly because of my passion and commitment to smartphone photography and videography. So to test out all this, I took the Reno 10 5G for a day trip to Mount Kenya and shot everything on 4K@30fps.

A Film from the Oppo Reno 10 5G

That trip confirmed to me that the Oppo Reno 10 5G is a content creator phone. The colors, the details, and overall quality are just awesome for a phone priced at Ksh 55,000. The phone lacks adequate stabilization for the specific shoot I had and typically I don’t like to use the Electronic Image Stabilization.

The selfie camera retracts to 1080@30fps videos and automatically applies a bokeh effect that separates the subject from the background. The selfie video sample is in the below TikTok video.

For photos, you get good details, but sometimes the phone tends to over-sharpen and over-saturate some photos but all that can be fixed on post-editing. Overall, the phone very well particularly when exposed to good lighting otherwise the night photos are not as good as the hype was.

4. BATTERY

Now to the battery part, the Oppo Reno 10 5g is equipped with a 5000mAh battery and supports up to 67W of SUPERVOOC fast charging technology. On use, the Reno 10 was quite productive, having shot over 30 clips in 4K@30fps and remaining with enough juice to run me for quite some time means the phone can give you enough juice to keep you up during your busy day. And when it’s time to juice it up, the 67W fast charger comes in handy making sure you are full and ready to go in under an hour.

5. THE SMALL FEATURES THAT MATTER

First up is the Infrared sensor or IR blaster. This has come in handy specifically when controlling many devices in a certain place for instance since I do event setups, I have managed to turn on most of our TVs on-site without the need for the actual manufacturer remote. Something also cool was the inclusion of an official app that supports the majority of manufacturers across the world. The IR blaster works across many devices as long as they are supported on the app.

The fingerprint sensor helps in protecting your documents when you are away from your device. I have found it very fast to unlock the phone and very secure when doing my daily finance transactions.

The Stereo speakers on the Oppo Reno 10 5G are quite good. They are not the best in the market but they are somewhere in a good spot. They are clear, filled with enough low end and the sound output is balanced well. Something to note is that the Reno 10 5G doesn’t have Dolby Atmos support like the Reno 6 5G.

6. Oppo Reno 10 5G Review CONCLUSION

The Oppo Reno 10 5G is a content creator-oriented smartphone with features that are meant to help you during your creative journey. This is the phone I have been using to shoot the TechED Africa Reels from home and it has served me well. So far I would recommend it to anyone who wants to upgrade their phones.
