Oppo has officially announced the Oppo Reno 8 series in China as the successor of the Oppo Reno 7 launched a few weeks ago in Kenya. The phone features some noticeable improvements compared to the previous-gen. The Oppo Reno 8 series is available only in China and if we go by previous Oppo Kenya timelines will be available locally in 6 months’ time. The launch also saw Oppo get into the large screen segment with the Oppo Pad Air.
Oppo Reno 8 specifications
The Oppo Reno 8 has a 6.43″ FHD+ AMOLED 90Hz display with Gorilla Glass 5 front panel protection and 800 nits peak brightness. Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 6nm processor coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. Out of the box, the phone comes with ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12.
For the camera, the phone has a triple rear setup comprising 50MP+2MP+2MP. To the front is the 32MP selfie shooter. The rear camera can shoot up to 4K@30fps videos while the selfie shooter takes up to 1080p@30fps videos.
The phone is powered by a 4500mAh capacity battery that fast charges with the included 80W fast charger via the USB Type-C port. For security, you get an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Oppo Reno 8 Pro specifications
The Reno 8 pro comes with a 6.62″ AMOLED 120Hz HDR10+ display protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and a peak brightness of 1300 nits. Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 4nm processor coupled with up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB storage. Out of the box, the phone comes with Android 12 based ColorOS 12.1
The Reno 8 Pro comprises a triple camera rear setup of 50MP+8MP+2MP and a selfie shooter that has 32MP. The maximum video shooting on this phone is 4K@30fps while for the selfie camera it is 1080p@30fps. The battery for the Oppo Reno 8 Pro has a 4500mAh capacity and also supports 80W fast charging promising 1-100% in 31 minutes according to the company. Other features include NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-C, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
Oppo Reno 8 Pro+ specifications
This is the ultimate flagship on the Oppo Reno 8 series and comes in with a 6.7″ FHD+ AMOLED display supporting 120Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+, and 950 nits peak brightness. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Under the hood is the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max 5nm processor coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
The phone comes with a 50MP+8MP+2MP triple rear camera setup with a maximum video recording of 4K@30fps. The front features a 32MP selfie shooter with a maximum video recording of 1080p@30fps. The phone comes with a 4500mAh battery capacity that supports 80W fast charging. Other features include USB Type-C, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6and an Under-display fingerprint scanner.
Pricing and availability
The Oppo Reno 8 base model is expected to start from $375, Oppo Reno 8 pro is expected to start from $450 while the 8 Pro+ is expected to start from $555. These prices are just approximate and actual pricing will be updated once the phone is launched globally and locally. All phones in the Oppo Reno 8 series don’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
