OxygenOS and ColorOS merge for Oneplus devices

Oneplus’ OxygenOS recently announced its merge with Oppo’s ColorOS on the OnePlus community forum making it a sub-brand of Oppo. They are terming this merge as the OPLUS group. OnePlus has been working with Oppo in the past on different projects(R&D forces) and this is not new to them. However, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau came out loud on their collaboration and this is what he had to say concerning the collaboration at the event.

“After seeing positive impact from those changes, we’ve decided to further integrate our organization with Oppo”, Lau explained further saying “With this deeper integration with Oppo, we will have more resources at hand to create even better products for you. It will also allow us to be more efficient, for example, bringing faster and more stable software updates for OnePlus users,”

This left unanswered questions about the future of OnePlus. Lau explained saying the two brands will operate independently. A company representative further added through email with Android Authority that OxygenOS will remain the operating system for global OnePlus devices outside the China market and ColorOS on OnePlus and Oppo devices in China. The OxygenOS will however have the same codebase as ColorOS.
