The Japanese tech giant, Sony, introduced a new PS5 to be launched in November via a blog post. The new PS5 will be slimmer and lighter than its predecessor coming with a removable disc and 1TB of internal storage. It comes to replace the original version and in turn has Ultra HD Blu-ray drive.
Senior director, SIE Content Communications- Sid Shuman, said that the new PS5 was created to “address the evolving needs of players.”
This new PS5 has been reduced in volume by 30% and weighs less. There are also some noticeable changes with the design. It has four separate cover panels that can be removed and swapped. The top panels come with a glossy finish while the bottom panels stay matte. Sony has added a bulge on the side that houses the disc drive. Internally, it comes with 1TB of storage, which is an increase from the previous 800GB.
The front side of the PS5 will have two USB Type C ports instead of the usual USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports. The box will come with a horizontal stand for the PS5. A vertical stand will be sold separately. Previously, Sony gave a single stand that could be turned into both a vertical and horizontal stand.
Its tag line is “Same immersive power, New slimmer size”
In US, the new model will cost $499.99 with the drive included while the digital edition is $449.99. The model will be released at select retail stores and Sony’s PlayStation direct site. This appears to be a price increase from the current digital only which costs $399 “It will continue to roll out globally in the following months,” says Shuman. “Once inventory of the current PS5 model has sold out, the new PS5 will become the only model available.”
