Sony announced a new set of flagship noise-cancelling headphones: the WH-1000XM5. The headphones have a new design. The headband is slightly thinner, and, instead of arms that cradle the ear cups at both sides, there’s a single stem running down the center. Sony has amped up the noise cancellation by adding a second processor to the new headphones. According to a press release, the change can be noticeable in ”mid- to high-frequency noise”. There’s now eight microphones around the perimeter of each ear cup. The controls remain the same: control audio with tap and swipe gestures, and there’s a physical button for switching between ANC and ambient modes. Sony however still plans to keep selling the WH-1000XM4s released last year.
