WhatsApp new features-Chat Lock and Edit

WhatsApp has recently introduced two new exciting features to its already dynamic application. The first one being the ‘Chat Lock’. The chat app introduced this feature to allow users lock their most private conversations. The chat will be secure in a different folder and the sender’s name and content will not be visible when a new message is received. You can lock the chat by tapping the name of a one-to-one or group chat then selecting the lock option. To reveal those chats, slide down your inbox and enter your password or biometric. Locking a chat takes the thread out of your inbox and can only be accessed via device password or biometric

The second feature is the ability to edit texts. WhatsApp users can now opt to edit their texts within 15 minutes of sending it. This latest feature was announced by Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, on a Facebook post on Monday 22nd. Earlier, one had to either delete a message or send the correction in a separate text. The window to delete the message was increased from 48 hours to 60 hours last year.

To edit your text after sending it, long press the message and select the edit option from the drop down menu. The message will be marked as “edited”. The app will however not show the edit history.

Competitor apps like Telegram and Signal already had the feature.

WhatsApp said the messages will still be secured by end-to-end encryption. This new feature is already rolling out globally and will soon be available to all users in the next few weeks.
